Prabhu Deva : Biography
Prabhu Deva, born 3 April 1973 in Chennai, is a choreographer, actor and film director in India. He is popularly called "India's Michael Jackson" for his fast dance movements. His first movie as a dance director was Vetri Vizha (Tamil) (year). He has since choreographed over 100 movies. He is Receipent of a National Award for Best Choreographer for the film "Minsara Kanavu".
Before starting as a full time fim actor, he did some song sequences in films. His first movie as a hero (star) was in Indhu with actress Roja.
He is the son of the legendary dance master Sundaram, and dancing is his passion. From choreography he went on to establish himself as an actor. He became a star in Kollywood with his seemingly impossible dance steps. Prabhu Deva's success can be attributed more to his dancing than anything else. He has a large following in the Tamil Telugu film industry.
Prabhu Deva : Career
Prabhu Deva was first noticed when he made a brief appearance in a song in Gentlemen. The dancing prowess he displayed in the song Chiku buku raile made young audiences go crazy. He can be seen dancing in the background group alongside his brother Rajusundaram for the song "Raja Rajathi Raja" in the Maniratnam-directed Agni Natchathiram. His father was the choreographer for that film. After Gentleman followed Kadhalan by S. Shankar with him as hero. It was a hit even in its dubbed versions. He became a sensation overnight and came to be known as a boneless wonder for his supple moves. Though he had been active as an actor for quite some time, his talents were not seen until Ezhayin Siripiley where he played a poor bus coolie. Even in Penin Manadhai Thottu, his acting ability was praised. Prabhu Deva decided to direct a feature film in Telugu, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana (2005) starring Siddharth and Trisha Krishnan, which has become such a huge hit that he has been offered another film by the same producer.
