Bhagyaraj : Biography
Bhagyaraj is a multi-faceted film personality - he is a director, actor, screenplay/dialogue writer and a producer. He started his career as an assistant to director G. Ramakrishnan and then to Bharathiraja. He wrote the script for the hit South Indian film Kizhake Pogum Rayil (1978). He made his directorial debut with the film Suvarillatha Chittirangal. He then started his own concern and produced a series of popular films in the Tamil language. He created his own brand of moviemaking, lacing clever humour with his sometimes socially-themed storylines. He often plays the lead role in the movies in which he directs. The screen characters he portrays are typically ironically comedic, or display cool and casual bravado. His storytelling approach gained huge popularity amongst the masses.
He has directed and acted in more than thirty films. Apart from Tamil-language films, he has also directed Hindi films. Currently, he focuses on making television serials. He has a new film Parijatham slated for release in 2006
